February 2009

OK, since I wanted to post Christmas photos last month instead, I've postponed by Year in Review until now when I am able to write it thoughtfully. So here it goes!

As is becoming a yearly ritual, I've answered some of life's tough questions about 2008 for your enjoyment and my retrospective. Enjoy!

1. Highlights of the year

  • Getting married of course!!
  • Visiting the Czech Republic
  • Dumping all of my business ventures
  • Taking up scrapbooking which I absolutely LOVE
  • Starting to actually play hockey
  • Taking an awesome wine tour of Grand Junction and Palisade, CO
  • Visited Canon City, CO
  • Came back to Buffalo for the first time in over 2 years
  • Finally got to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada

2. Lowlights of the year

  • Not scoring a goal in hockey yet :)
  • Missing my friends and family

3. What do you have at the end of 2008 that you didn't have before?

That's easy--A HUSBAND! Never thought I'd be saying that, damn!

4. Did you make any resolutions at the start of 2008 that you managed to keep?

OK, copying over from last year's list, here were my goals:

  • Score one goal in playing hockey
  • Get married!
  • Stay in touch more with friends and family

While I have yet to score a goal on my own, I do believe that I got two assists. Now that I have formulated that I much rather prefer to play defense than forward, scoring goals has become less of an actual desire for me. I quite like the concept of denying others the glory. :)

As we all know the marriage actually went down, so that's checked off my list! And I would like to believe that I tried harder to keep in touch with people, through more phone calls, letters, emails, and handmade cards. Still, I can do better, and I plan on it in this new year!

In terms of reviewing my lifetime list, let's see...only two this year: get married and visit the Czech Republic. The kicker is, I've been scratching goals off of the list, but not adding any new ones. I feel quite satisfied in my life and cannot think of additional things that I'd like to do, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad!

5. Strangest thing of the year

Seeing familiar people in an unfamiliar location. Friends and family from two continents, 3 countries, and 5 states came together in a 4th country and that was trippy. It was weird to think that after 15 years of correspondence with Sarah, that she finally met my parents and sister!!!

6. Funniest thing of the year

My mother breaking her nose on the streets of Prague after my wedding reception. Hands down. :)

7. Saddest thing of the year

My Mom having a lot of health problems. Thankfully, none of them are serious, it was just one thing after another.

8. Any goals for the new year?

  • To keep my job quite frankly
  • To see Sarah and Mike again
  • To be even better at keeping in touch with friends and family
  • Let's still try to get a goal in hockey :)
  • Continue learning more scrapbooking techniques

9. Concert of the year

Man 2008 was a KILLER year for concerts. To name a few:

  • Marilyn Manson, in a converted ballroom, where you get two shows--the band and the audience
  • Kraftwerk, who I had not really heard prior to the show but who are absolute pioneers and awesome live
  • She Wants Revenge, our first time seeing them, and they are amazing
  • The Gutter Twins, who had a fantastic atmosphere
  • Apocalyptica, who just blew me away (quartet of cellos who do rock music)
  • James, who still have it after breaking up so many years ago
  • Christopher O'Riley, a brilliant pianist
  • Sisters of Mercy, smoke-filled and good fun
